I have always been intrigued by the internet avatars. Internet provides one with a comfortable anonymity, people get the courage to masquerade as some one which they are not. It is they who lack the courage to reveal their real self, fearing that they would be very easily exposed.
It is interesting to find that many people chat with pseudo persons with fake names, pictures and identities. Imagine the amount of time one would be wasting in such meaningless exercise..
Few years of experience on the net has helped me in locating fake people on the net. What should i do when i locate them? I do not know. Those who read my blog may advise me.. It is an interesting question..i think..
but y do people knowingly do such things? I tried to test the net and find out answers. I myself tried to pose as someone who i was not. Rather I was usually not. When I posed as a highly desirable person on the net, i was inundated with friendship requests. After a while, when I switched my identity back to my own, not-so-sought-after regular image, there was a dramatic fall in the number of friendship requests. Not only did i receive lesser number of requests, but I also found existing 'friends' vanishing from my list. Interesting. Suddenly I started feeling so sad. Was I missing all the attention I received as the 'other person'? I felt i was dumped. I think i was getting a sort of feel good factor when i was one of the most sought after person. But, it gave me an opportunity to understand who my true friends were. I am grateful to them and I am happy I found them. Finders keepers. I hope to keep their friendship for a very long time to come.

Now that I got the answer to the internet avatars, incarnations and re-incarnations', should I stop seriously bothering about them? After all they lead not to a harmful addiction.
This brings me to the news item I read about the Pune Police and Shiv Sena demanding banning of 'Orkut'. Is this some sort of 'Internet Policing' ? or 'Internet scavenging' . I am not hitting upon the right terminology.. I think i am feeling sleepy..i will be back later. food for thought? Then I read about the tragic case of a girl who was shot in a Mumbai hotel and the killer was traced through Orkut platform. Orkut apparently helped trace the killer. Now what? Is it good or bad? i dunno..
